International Immersion: Transformative Leadership for Future Challenges – Program Review I had the opportunity to participate in the International Immersion program at EADA Business School, Barcelona, spending a month at the Barcelona campus and an additional week at the Collbató campus. The overall experience was highly enriching and impactful. The classroom sessions at the Barcelona campus were exceptionally interactive and engaging. The learning environment encouraged open dialogue, collaborative thinking, and the exchange of diverse perspectives among participants from different backgrounds. This significantly enhanced the depth of discussions and contributed to a well-rounded learning experience. The Collbató campus offered a distinctly immersive environment, combining experiential learning with outdoor activities. This setting complemented the academic sessions by fostering teamwork, reflection, and leadership development in a more informal yet highly effective context. Overall, the program was a valuable learning journey. While the immediate experience was positive, its true impact has become more evident over time. It has contributed meaningfully to my personal and professional development, particularly in enhancing my leadership perspective, cross-cultural understanding, and ability to navigate complex, real-world challenges.
Although I earned my bachelor degree at the University of York in UK, it was quite theoretical. I really started to bridge the learning gap between theory and practice only when I started to pursue my master degree in Business Analytics and Data Science at EU Business School in Barcelona. What stands out most in my current program is the university’s strong emphasis on practical experience. Our professors are not only scholars but also are successful business managers and data experts, as they are either the owners of successful organizations or individuals who took on top management roles in large corporations. Their teachings are more than just the syllabus in, they also provide personal experience in the area of niche markets, provide best practices in an industry, and always provoke our thinking with regard to the existing trends in higher education, business strategy, and innovation.
BSM gives you the opportunity to acquire much knowledge that serves you both professionally and personally. In addition, it gives you the possibility of entering new jobs in higher positions or even changing work areas. For how it makes you grow, for what you learn and for the contacts you reach, I totally recommend it.
I studied tourism at UAB for one semester in 2022. I was supposed to stay for a full year, but my experience wasn't good and I left after the first semester. First of all, the housing area (Villa universitária) has mold. I was sick constantly during my exhange and went through multiple respiratory infections. I also had almost daily headaches and a very painful and strong cough. All of this eased after a couple weeks once I returned to my home country. Other exhange students told me about having the same issues and some noticed mold in their apartment walls. The housing area at times is very unsave and not controlled properly. The tourism faculty is located in the same building with the housing area reception. Therefore, it was very excluded from the rest of the campus. That's why, I didn't really get to use any of the services offered at the campus or get a real university experience. UAB also has a medical centre for "all students" according to their website, yet this doesn't include tourism students. I was turned away from the centre despite being extremely sick once they heard I study tourism at the school. The classes focused more on remembering as much information as you can to pass the exam, rather than focusing on understanding, critical thinking etc. The teachers were very often late to classes, they felt very unmotivated and I received very little feedback. In short, I do not recommend UAB. My experience was a loss of money and time.
My journey at Pompeu Fabra has been nothing short of inspiring. The university's emphasis on research and real-world application ignited a fire within me to explore my field in depth. My professors were more than just educators; they were passionate mentors who challenged me to think critically and independently. The vibrant energy of Barcelona, combined with the university's international focus, created an environment where I felt both stimulated and supported. UPF has equipped me with a robust skill set and a global perspective, preparing me to make a meaningful impact on the world.
I believe that this is an extremely global school, and it has been a tremendous experience interacting with a bunch of people from different nationalities. It has been an absolute pleasure to learn from some great names in the field. My only complaint would be in regard to the pressure the course invariably puts on the students. Even though Barcelona is a great city, it gets difficult when you are forced to the library 7 days a week. A work in progress would be my view on the programme!
