The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was my first choice when it came to looking for colleges. I have recently completed my first year as a undergraduate at the university and have found that it has done nothing but exceeded each of my personal expectations. Initially I was quite skeptical about the rigorous academics but have found that there are an abundant amount of resources for each student. There are resources offered such as peer tutoring, academic coaching, and writing centers. Each of which I have used in order to adapt during my first year. Although there are an abundant amount of resources for academics there are plenty of resources for personal use such as an LGBTQ center, Women’s and Gender center, and Mental Health and Counseling center on campus. These few do not even begin to identify all of the opportunities for each cultural and ethnic group on campus. I, myself am a Native American on campus and have felt heard and understood through each step of the way on campus. No matter the situation I have always had an opportunity to express myself and find ways to help me during my time at UNC. Daily they are striving to achieve greatness and excellence and I am beyond proud and grateful for my opportunity to attend the university.

View moreAs a STEM major at UNC, I had access to great professors doing exciting research. The downside is that most of the core classes I was required to take were massive lectures, and it was easy to get lost in the crowd. If in STEM, be sure to reach out to professors, and if possible get involved in a lab, as that’s where you’ll get the personal attention you need to make your experience really special. UNC students are a great group of people, and there are tons of extracurriculars to get involved in if you’re into that sort of thing. Overall, great school, and a great choice for me.
