The public research university, the Università di Pisa (UniPi) is located in the beautiful Italian city of Pisa. It was established in 1343 and is one of the oldest universities in Italy. In fact, it is the 19th oldest extant university in the world. The school is one of the top higher education institutions in Italy and the world- in university rankings by ARWU and the QS, the school ranked among the top 10 nationally and top 400 worldwide. The renowned institute is also home to the Orto botanico de Pisa, which is Europe’s oldest academic botanical garden. The university is part of the Pisa University System and hosts about 50,000 students. 46,000 are undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 3,500 are enrolled in doctorate and specialization programmes. The university offers a wide range of study options, in all fields of knowledge. It is particularly present in the fields of philology and cultural studies – it’s a leading member of IcoN (an inter-university consortium of 21 Italian universities, which are supported by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. It is also part of the European University Association, the Partnership of a European Group of Aeronautics and Space Universities network, as well as the Cineca consortium. The school is popular among international students, as it provides a multinational learning environment in a beautiful city. Graduates of UniPi are highly qualified and well-equipped with the necessary skills and tools to become successful in their professional and personal life. Among its many notable alumni are several national and international political leaders, that includes two of Italy’s presidents, five Popes, as well as five Italian prime ministers and three Nobel laureates. It is therefore a given, that graduates are highly employable and usually find employment within a very short period of time after graduating.

The variety of courses offered allows students to personalize their study path based on their inclinations and interests.
However, the teaching method needs to be reviewed, lessons are often too theoretical and not very stimulating.
The infrastructure is old and requires more maintenance.
The “communication and entertainment disciplines course” (L20) is too theoretical, more practise and practical workshops would be needed. Overall it prepares well on the theory and philosophy behind communication. In addition to this, more specific courses on advertising communication would be needed.
