Student Visa Requirements

If you are a citizen of the European Union or a country that is part of the European Economic Area then you don’t need to apply for a visa for studying in Denmark, however, if you are staying in the country for longer than 3 months you will need to acquire a residence permit.

if you do need to apply for a visa then you will need to pay a €310 visa fee and provide proof of payment along with an acceptance letter from your university, a passport or other traffic document, proof regarding accommodation arrangement and proof of language proficiency.

Depending on the country you are applying from you may not need to provide all of these, or you may need to provide more – you should contact the Danish Embassy or Consulate for more information.

Student Accommodation In Denmark

Many Danish Universities have a student accommodation services who will help you find appropriate accommodation for your study. For some institutions halls of residence are available at a considerably cheaper rate than private accommodation although the standards are often lower.

There are plenty of private student accommodation companies who will assist you in finding accommodation, especially in the larger cities, but applying early is a must to get the best accommodation.

Applying To Danish Universities

In order to be accepted onto a higher education programme in Denmark then you must prove you have a high standard of English by passing a language proficiency test if English is not your first language. Some courses are taught in Danish and these also require a language proficiency test to be passed before you are accepted.

Some study programmes may have other requirements such as passable grades in certain subject areas of study, passing an admission test or a minimum grade point average.

You can apply to some universities online but for the most part, applications must be submitted to the university directly.

Danish Tuition Fees and Finance

For citizens of the European Union/EEA and Switzerland higher education in Denmark is free with no tuition fees required to be paid, you also do not have to pay tuition fees if you have a permanent residence permit.

For other international students tuition fees are usually between DKK45,000 and DKK120,000 depending on level of study and what you are studying.

There are plenty of scholarships available from the EU, Denmark and other institutions such as Erasmus and Nordplus.
