I loved my time at VCU. I double majored in Political Science and International Studies with a concentration in Latin America and a minor in Spanish. All of my professors at VCU consistently encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, take full advantage of all of the resources the campus offered, connect with the on and off campus, and explore my passions. My favorite part of going to VCU was being a member of the VCU Globe Living Learning Community. Through this program, I was able to connect with international students as well as participate in events, classes, and dialogue that fostered inclusive intercultural communication. With the tremendous support of the Education Abroad office, I was able to do two study abroad programs. One was a week-long program in Athens, Greece with the VCU Globe Living Learning Community. There we learned how the country was adapting to support the influx of refugees and migrants. I also did a semester abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina focusing on social movements and human rights. VCU helped me find ways to connect all of my passions and really figure out who I was and want to be in this world. I’m very grateful for the lifelong friends I made and the mentors that I gained over the 4 years of my undergraduate experience.
View moreVCU is a wonderful Institution. Offers great opportunities to its students. I did Mass Communication and from the teachings I can comfortably recommend ASU for any student with interest in Mass Communication. ASU also has got some other good programs for their students
View moreVCU has its pros and cons, like any school. Student life is the biggest pro. There is never a dull moment. It sticks to its diverse reputation by staying inclusive and representative of everyone. With its pros there are cons, that being it is in a city so safety can be compromised. Fortunately, the university has lots of resources to provide as much as possible to ensure safety.
View moreI studied on the Qatar campus, which was interesting. I would say it lacked diversity and open-mindedness sometimes but it was a great college experience overall. I was surrounded by great people and supportive professors. I was able to find who I was and what my passions were at VCU.
View moreMy campus was actually based in Doha, Qatar among 10 other US-based institutions offering programs that were the best in their fields. I studied Interior Design, and the program was rigorous and versatile, as we learned skills from all other design majors. The professors were from diverse backgrounds and even qualifications, and experts in their professions. The campus also has multiple clubs from sports to arts. I do have to note that what I disliked most was the funding for our departments which resulted in a lot of students being disadvantaged, especially in an incredibly wealthy country.
As an international student, I lived in the dorms that were in close proximity to the school and made friends with other international students that way. I also was a Resident Assistant for two years which eased the burden of extremely high costs for housing and simultaneously, provided me with a monthly stipend. Through this experience, I honed my leadership skills, interacted with students from all backgrounds and universities, and helped them through their time at university. had the privilege of even befriending these students and still being good friends to this day.
