As a member of the Class of 2020, I found Stony Brook University to offer a very diverse campus environment, especially with a large international student population, mainly from Korea and China. This diversity brought unique perspectives to group work and campus life.
Academically, the experience was a bit mixed. Some lecturers were approachable and supportive, but others became visibly annoyed when students asked too many questions, which could make learning uncomfortable at times.
For STEM majors, especially international students, there were no strict attendance requirements, and lectures were conveniently recorded online. This flexibility was helpful, though it sometimes led to a lack of in-class engagement.
Overall, I would recommend the university for students who are independent and can manage their learning well, particularly in STEM programs.
