Harvard is a great place if you want to go far in life – the opportunities you find there are incredible as is the network of friends that you will make. The university is very flexible when it comes to planning your field of study and there are many people/resources to help advise you. That being said, it isn’t necessarily the happiest place – particularly if you are some kind of minority. In addition, students are usually overworked and whilst they are not necessarily very competitive with one another, they’re not always the best team-players either.View more
The university has incredible resources and can make any vision a reality. If you have an idea for a business, research, or anything else the university will have ways for you to obtain the necessary information, meet the right experts, and receive the necessary feedback. Nonetheless, amidst this bounty of resources for someone not accustomed to so many advantages, it can be very difficult to navigate and figure out what is important and what one truly seeks out in the college experience. So, I wish there’d be more mentorship and support for students. The classes and professors, however, are for the most part extremely invested in their students and in their research; every professor has office hours and strongly encourages students to make use of them (something I learned is not true in a number of other places). Overall, it is an incredible opportunity to have gone to this university, and I hope that the institution improves and moves toward more student integration and better mentorship.View more
If I were to focus on the program only, I have to admit I don’t have any regrets choosing this university. The resources are excellent in my field: specialists for almost all the possible areas, excellent libraries, numerous guest writers, professors and professionals, an overwhelming number of activities and events daily!
I love the freedom I have to tailor my degree according to my time and interests and especially all the opportunities it allowed me to enjoy during my studies. I adore how international the university is and I wish its aim to promote diversity would extend way more, in order to allow students from poorer backgrounds, diverse origins and places to hone their skills and talent and make the most of what the university has to offer.
On a personal level, I find studying, writing and teaching at the same time quite stressful and I wish I could focus on one aspect of my grad student life at a time. I wish I had a better work-life balance and be exposed to more fields in which I had a good chance of making a difference. I wish the academic bubble in which I am provided an honestly constructive, sincere and stimulating environment where competition would be positive and shallowness inexistent.
Overall, however, I am extremely happy with the choice I made and I would recommend everybody to apply. The course definitely met my expectations, while the university exceeded them. Although I wish I lived in the city centre, I have to admit the campus has its own charm and I miss it when I’m away. The university asks a lot from the students, but it equally provides them with unimaginable resources that I’m very grateful to have. I really feel that it is a once in a lifetime experience that changed the way in which I understand my own identity, as well as other numerous aspects that have to do with the world we live in.View more
I would whole heartedly recommend Harvard. Like any institution, it is not perfect, but the opportunities Harvard provides its students are overwhelming. Through Harvard programs, I have traveled the world. I have learned two languages. I have met, and studied under, leading scholars in history and political science. The people here, once you find them, are remarkable. I learn from listening to them. I would never want to study anywhere else.View more
