I have somewhat enjoyed my time at this university. The academics are well-managed, however, lack additional resources and vital career building initiatives which are not provided by the university. Lecturers are thorough and provide a good learning environment. The campus has a wide range of facilities, but lacks student events and a feeling of student-togetherness which has negatively impacted my time at the university. The students are for the most part friendly, but many lack ambition and drive, which has impacted the completion of group projects and the overall environment of the university. As a whole, solely for the academics, I would recommend this university, but there are certainly better out there and if I could I go back, I would have chosen a different university.
View moreThe University of the West Scotland is a reputable institution with a rigorous teaching approach and a calm learning environment. Since it is convenient to access from anywhere in the world, the facility is the greatest.
View moreThe University has good, modern study areas which are great working environments and they have an app to help you find your way around the University which is extremely helpful. Most of the lecturers are invested in the subjects they teach and are supportive. However, the University is a bit complicated to navigate through, and in my course in particular, it is mostly online based learning which I do not like as much. We have 1 single in-person day of classes a week. Some of the lecturers do not reply within time or at all which is frustrating, however this is not the case for the majority of my lecturers.
View moreThe university is very small and easy to find your way about, maps everywhere and reception staff are very helpful.
The canteen is huge with lists of seats and sofa seats, however, it is a ghost town most of the time. The food is not great and there are not many options.
Library is great, staff are very helpful and it’s easy to access books, computers, printing, previous dissertations and other resources. The only thing I would say is it opens Monday – Friday and 9am so I can not go before my lectures.
The classrooms are fine, but you cannot open the windows so it can get hot and stuffy when there’s a full class in.
I am in fourth year now and have mostly enjoyed my experience at UWS.
I have enjoyed my time studying here for the most part.
The main negative has been the lack of in person teaching. We only go in when we need to, for recordings etc. We are in just once a week max. It does feel sometimes like we haven’t got the full university experience, because we’ve never had an in person lecture, whenever we are in campus it’s in studio rooms.
However the contacts we have been passed on to and opportunities to do stuff out with the course we have been told about is definitely beyond what many of my friends and family received in their respective courses.
