I am a first year undergraduate university student attending Loughborough university.
I love the location of the university because of the contrast it has between living in the busy city of London.
Loughborough university is full of opportunities for students of all backgrounds. This is due to the fact that Loughborough has countless societies and sports to choose from.
Not to mention my on campus accommodation, which was ranked the best accommodation in the UK!
The degree which im undergoing currently has allowed me to broaden my future prospects in multiple fields, including government roles and business and finance, because politics is such a versatile degree which allows students to progress in extensive research.
English lit st Loughborough is very chill. Though at first the different reading materials each week can be overwhelming, it definitely becomes more manageable as you get use to it. The assignments are also do-able, not too complex (eg: for this year (my second year) I have multiple choice quizzes as part of one of my assignments). Loughborough as a university is quite small; very different from London. It does have lots of food places to eat and meet up with friends. Friends you will make easily on your course or societies or sport clubs. I find that this makes Loughborough a standout uni due to its wide range of events, activities, clubs and societies it has. Which enable freshers or uni students in general to socialise and have this sense of a community to minimise the typical feelings of loneliness at university.
View moreLoughborough University has a very lively student life and the town is centered around students. Majority of the population at Loughborough is the students. Loughborough is a small town so everywhere you go, you will run into someone you know. The bartenders at the pub and student union, nearby cafes, restaurants, neighbors, etc, all students. Everything you need is within a 20 minute walking distance.
It may seem like Loughborough University is a boring university in the middle of nowhere but its the opposite! There are a variety of activities for students to get involved in such as volunteering, societies and networks, hall get togethers, nightlife, and of course sports! Loughborough is the best sports university in all of Europe. However, if you are not a sporty person, don’t be intimidated or afraid to apply because there are many opportunities for beginners and you don’t have to get into sports at all. You’d also be surprised by the amount of free time you’ll have to get involved in more activities.
If you love to party, there are 5 clubs in town including the Student Union with its weekly events. Nottingham and Leicester is also a half an hour train ride away.
There is always something interesting going on at Loughborough so you’ll never be bored. For example, Athletic Union initiations. However, if you are an international student and you are at Loughborough during winter, easter or summer break, it can get quite lonely.
There are 2 on campus gyms as well as 3 or 4 more gyms in town for those who like to maintain fitness. All the supermarkets sell a variety of high protein meals. The student union has a cafe, bubble tea shop, and a Spar. The campus shuttlebus is free inside the campus to get from one point to another because Loughborough university also has the largest campus in the UK. The library is huge with lots of resources. The town has multiple stores for shopping and every November the Charnborough council organises a funfair which is like a mini Winter Wonderland and lasts 3 days.
My experience at Loughborough has been amazing and I do not regret accepting my offer. Studying at Loughborough has changed me and being surrounded by students who are hard working and determined pushes me to be the best version of myself. I love the friends I made here and I wish my time here would go by more slowly.
View moreI am currently undertaking my degree at Loughborough University. With a state-of-the-art campus and facilities that exceed expectations, Loughborough is nothing short of exceptional.
I favoured Loughborough above other Universities because it has a large community feel. I was slightly hesitant that I would not be “sporty enough” to fit in with the general population at university. I was incredibly wrong about this, and my worries were whisked away when I realised how many societies Loughborough has.
There are students from all walks of life at the university, from art lovers to video game fiends. My best decision at Loughborough was to become a committee member of a culture and faith society. This allowed me to meet many students and experience their cultures right at my doorstep.
It is no secret that Loughborough has some of the best student experiences in the country. However, one fault that I wish could be mended is the nightlife. As a first year, there are so many events and people to meet that the mundane nightlife in town feels like the Zante strip!
Sadly, as an old, experienced second year, a night in the Union with your friends is filled with the same playlist they play twice weekly, and bouncers watch your every move.
Although it is a trek, Nottingham and Leicester are just a quick train journey or Uber away for a good night out.
My academic experience at Loughborough has been challenging but rewarding. The university offers excellent support for your wellbeing, academic interests and health. The lectures are informative, and the buildings are a short walk from campus accommodation. My main lecture building is only five minutes from the Students’ Union, so I can catch up with friends and have a coffee before my following lecture.
Loughborough has also supported me immensely in my year abroad, from the application process to checking in on my well-being in France. The opportunities that the university has to offer are excellent. I have friends working at top finance firms on their placement year and friends studying in Lisbon and Madrid.
After two years at Loughborough and one more to go, it has become my second home. I have made lifelong friends here that I now consider family and memories I will cherish. I have grown into a more confident version of myself and had the opportunity to study my subject in France at a top European university.
I strongly recommend Loughborough…there is more to do than just sports!
Loughborough is an amazing university that is bursting with different opportunities to find something that suits your personal desires. This is accompanied by the Loughborough’s sense of community through the strong support system. Alongside this, there are many great facilities on the vibrant campus that encourages students to work hard on their studies. Whether it’s a business course or a design course, there is a building for everyone. I would recommend this University to people as it really is a transformative experience.
