The university experience, in general, is a great, comprehensive one that I find allows students to really find themselves academically and the university has amazingly broad and well-facilitated sports societies as well as societies for the arts and even one for if your kryptonite is a cup of tea and not to mention that there is a plethora of pubs and bars around town with a good time written all over.
It can be hard to find places to go out to, however, given the size of the town with its three main streets which means often you’re frequenting the same places all the time and sometimes the Union isn’t exactly the idea of a night out but it is a great melting pot to meet people all the same; I spent much of my time at the bops in the Union and some of the people I met are now my best friends. Plus, Dundee and Edinburgh aren’t a million miles away either which broadens your options.
Being an Indian from Singapore, i was hoping to join a University with immense diversity and inclusion. The University of St Andrews did not disappoint me. I felt right at home instantly, with such great internationality and friendly faces all over the town. Being a small town, everyone in St Andrews becomes like family and treats you no less than that. I have been involved in a number of the hundreds of societies that the univeristy offers and it has enhanced my CV like i would have never imagined. Being from such an academically excellent university is also a plus point when looking for an internship during University. I feel appreciated by all the professors and appreciate them equally. With the flexibility in courses, it has been easier for me to explore and decide on what im interested in.
View moreI am indebted to my St Andrews education for bringing me the best of friends and the greatest education. While subhonours classes can feel genera and tedious, honours modules are fascinating and provide the ability to specialize in certain subsets of your discipline. St Andrews also has a wonderful social life for a small town and the international community is incredible!
View moreAt the University of St. Andrews, i have not only made a ton of friends, but networks that can help me in my future career paths. With hundreds of options to choose from, being apart of a society at the University is the best way to ensure future meaningful connections. Personally, being apart of the debating society, i have met a number of influential leaders, including presidents of several countries. Through the additional resources provided by the University, i have had the opportunity to secure jobs at world renowned MNC’s. Moreover, the University provides a study abroad program which can help in diversifying ones mindset, experiencing different cultures and perspectives and looking at life from a different view. The professors and tutors at the University provide meaningful insights and are always extremely helpful. All of these mentioned resources eventually help a St Andrian develop personally and professionally.
View moreLike every university, there are shortcomings of the University of St Andrews, but none significant enough to have tainted my otherwise incredible experiences thus far. Though one will always encounter a lecturer in their course that they don’t particularly like, or go a little stir crazy being in such an isolated town in Fife – I have yet to come across any other student that shares the experiences we have had in St A. With the great education and networking opportunities, to the countless student-run events and nights-out, four years just doesn’t seem like enough!
View moreI did my PhD in International Relations at St Andrews University. The school of IR is very strong, with various directions for research, brilliant faculty members and professors. The town is small, which is ideal for doing research. A bit expensive though.
