    Good but could be better

Goldsmiths is one of the best creative and independent thinking universities in the world. This is a place that makes you think out of the box as a part of the curriculum. Diversity is appreciated and encouraged. Tutors encourage you to go for independent research.

The library is amazing and is a home to many. The sense of freedom that one gets here makes this place great.

However the teaching staff have not been treated well by the University Management. This lead to two strikes which shut the college by around 8 weeks. This was upsetting. I wish the management understood the need for better employment conditions for the teaching staff.

An incredibly caring and compelling university.

What struck me the most about this university, to begin with, was its welcoming and heart-warming atmosphere. As you walk around the halls, you begin to feel more as if you are part of a family rather than an institution. Both staff and students are more than eager to help newcomers and their caring attitude was what instantaneously reassured about choosing this university. The close sense of community and care is also partly heightened by the university’s size, being slightly smaller compared to other universities in London.

Goldsmiths also offers a wide range of facilities such as a gym, a cinema, Cafés, and an extensive library covering all the materials needed for one to succeed. The professors are all very experienced and almost always available to ask for help outside lectures and seminars, during their office hours. I am only in my first year, but I feel like I already have experienced enough to be confidently able to recommend Goldsmiths to anyone that is looking for an enthusiastic and insightful university experience.

    Not your average University

The most liberal and groundbreaking university in London and the entire UK. It encourages you to become a critical deep thinker, not a practitioner. It changes you the way that you see the world around you. Super friendly staff and professors. Everything is easy and possible there.

Chill and comfortable environment to learn and be inspired.

Simple commute to the University. The University has modern facilities and well-thought out building design. Really great and comfortable library, most students are willing to stay and work overnight.

Inspirational list of alumni. Inspirational peers and other students, the best of London’s art & humanities students. Supportive alumni, careers service , extracurricular events and programs. Diverse students, you’re bound to learn more about the Chinese and Asian culture for example.

Very Respectable Institution, with a strong sense of history mixed with modern architecture.

You can feel the history of Goldsmiths University all around the halls. As part of the University of London universities, it has a strong and good reputation. The campus has very subtle signs of tradition, but this campus also has state of the art architecture and design. This university seems to be setting the trends when it comes to London Universities. I loved the size and use of space in the library. I loved how the university took pride in all details even in things like leaflets and flyers. The style and diversity of my fellow students was super encouraging and inspiring, as many were from the arts.

So much great recreational things to do: yoga, mental health classes, visit a Chaplain/Priest. The mental health and student advisors were excellent. The classes for essay and study improvement – even better. Course leaders were so invested and cared about my wellbeing. The course leader would arrange meetings with me via Skype and in her office. She would write recommendations for me. Extremely helpful! Also, A bank right inside of the university, so I always would beat the queue.

A great student life, so much options on what to do and where to go in South East London (Greenwich).

Some parts of the university have a regal feel. Some days you will walk through the halls and see a massive orchestra rehearsing.

I came to the university not sure what to expect from my experience, but it was great. I felt independent, but very comfortable.

The best of the best in arts and culture attended this University, such as artist Damien Hirst and director Steve Mcqueen (12 years a Slave). An alumni, the creator of Glastonbury Festival, was honoured on the same day I graduated! Amazing!

A great place for eager individuals.

I am currently enrolled as a MA Digital Journalism Student and will share my opinion as a part-time one. Firstly, I went there in order to attend an Open Day event – I was extremely impressed by the size of the University, plus organization, equipment and cleanliness. Staff is always helpful and friendly, which is a major plus. Location is also very good, as New Cross (South East London) is easily accessible from Central London. My course per se is a mix of traditional Journalism practices and brand new ones, like Data Visualization and Social Media elements – for someone who is looking for a brand new context of the field, I find my programme extremely interesting and unusually good. Comparing to options back in my native Brazil, for example, Goldsmiths seems to be much more forward when it comes to Communications. My lecturers are all very experienced and currently active, always available through classes and office hours during the week. Even though Goldsmiths took part in a nationwide dispute over pensions recently, all academic representatives and Student Union were always keeping us posted through major meetings and weekly updates. Education is taken very seriously over there and I absolutely love my experience so far – I just wish I had the chance to study full-time. I still have a lot to experience, but I can already say that I highly recommend Goldsmiths if you are eager to learn and develop your intellectual skills in London.

  • A university which provides comfort

Goldsmiths was my second option. After coming to Goldsmiths on the open day I honestly felt drawn to the university as it provided a sense of comfort and ease. The staff who presented during the day were welcoming and knowledgable. The students were also kind. The university has helped me become more confident. The area does lack shops and better styled restaurants, however central london isnt too far. Overall the university is providing me with a great experience of uni life.

Goldsmiths was not initially my first choice of university however I am glad that I attended Goldsmiths. I has a very unique vibe where everyone is very friendly and approachable, including stuff members. The only downside is that some departments are slightly unorganised.

    Undergrad student last century (1994-1997)

I am very pleased with my decision to do a joint-honours degree, mixing English and History has broadened my horizons and had a lasting impact on my intellectual life. The art element of Goldsmiths influenced one of my courses; Word and Image. Overall I was very satisfied with the standard and level of teaching.

Socially New Cross is a great blend of South East London culture, influenced by immigrants from all over the world. Lewisham market is still the best place to buy fruits and veg in London, and the history of Deptford and Greenwich is second to none. Also good links to Central London, two stations within 5 minutes walk, then a ten-15 minute train journey.
