I have really enjoyed my college experience at LUC so far. Leiden offers great teachers with good pedagogy and amazing facilities. While there have been online classes for the majority of last year, they all have been well organized and still interesting to follow because teachers have put the effort into them. There is also a real concern with mental health for students which has been appreciated with the Covid crisis. Moreover, the community of students and teachers at LUC is amazing. There is always something to do or someone to talk to. Lastly, the geographic position of LUC is perfect for students wanting to enjoy a fast-paced student life
View moreLiberal arts and sciences at LUC is an amazing program in my opinion, as it allows you to study a broad range of subjects while still specialising in a particular area of interest. This program is a great fit for me because I had little to no idea what I wanted to study coming out of high school, and LUC allowed me to explore my interests further while linking a variety of topics and aspects (or study areas). LUC in particular looks into global challenges, a current topic through which I can develop my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Lastly, and the most important aspect of LUC is the community. With the residential concept, I have made many amazing friends which have helped me immensely in the transition from high school to becoming an independent and growing adult. Overall this is an amazing program if you want to explore your interests and options without immediately picking your specialisation, become independent surrounded by amazing people, and develop lifelong skills, all in the wonderful city of The Hague.
View moreLUC The Hague has great classes, and I loved studying the same as everyone in the first year and then choosing your major in the second year. The global challenges are interesting but a bit too broad, but the major helps you narrow down what you want to study. It is great to have elective space, I found out what I really like and feel passionate about by doing these electives! I loved living on campus for 2 years but I would only do this if you like socializing a lot because it can be really intense sometimes to study and live in the same building. LUC has amazing events such as a Pantomime, galas, a ski trip, hitchhiking competition, parties, and a lot of cool committees.
View moreI like the small-scale classes my programme offers, with friendly teachers and a student community that wants to help each other in learning. The biggest advantage of LUC is that you as a student have a great influence on your own learning experience, as the structure allows for choosing your own courses even within your major and has elective course space. Furthermore, as we have assessments non-stop throughout the blocks (we have 4 blocks per year) we are continuously learning and keeping up with the contents not only for end-of-term exams. This helps me to make the knowledge I acquire my own better.
View moreLUC really shines in its small-scale teaching. You get to connect with the high-quality staff which helps condense and streamline the classroom experience. Overall, LUC almost feels like a speedrun — they turned the four-year American liberal arts college into a three-year degree. While that means that in terms of intensity, LUC can be a bit much sometimes, and if you want to get the most out of your time here you have to keep up, LUC as a whole is incredibly rewarding.
View moreThis programme allows for an exploration of your interests without too many restrictions from a set study plan. Due to the possibilities to combine your major with different minors, semester abroad, minor within a major, etc. the possibilities to create a study plan suited for you are (almost) endless. There is great guidance from the university in creating such a feasible study plan. The professors (from my experience in the International Justice major) all have many years of experience in the field of research. Besides the compelling academic opportunities, there are also plenty of extra-curricular activities for students which allows you to further explore what your interests are and to gain experience with leadership positions.
View moreI like how versatile this programme is. There are many courses that have very different perspectives or feel different than your typical university courses and programmed. The first year is a little less motivating as there are many required courses, but as soon as you pick your major, you have a lot of tracks and versatility within the major (although some more than others) to better suit your tastes and represent what you want to study. From one major, there can be multiple different paths to take for master programmes or jobs.
View moreThe university college system is really a unique experience! It allows students to communicate new ideas and interact more with the content and professors. Location super central, many opportunities, high-quality courses!
View moreThis programme is very demanding but enjoyable at the same time. Heavy workloads, but no one questions effectiveness of it. Close connection with the community, everyone helps out people in need. All the hard work pays off after succeeding in difficult tasks. Perfect place to get familiar with human nature through the diverse, widespread international community. All in all best of all.
View moreI would recommend it however, I would highlight that it is a university that requires you to have a certain financial stability. And there are certainly high expectations regarding deadlines and readings however, most teachers are understanding, and if not the support system is almost perfect.
