Think twice

I have been studying for an Aerospace Degree these years and I can assure you I don’t regret choosing my degree but I don’t recommend anybody chooses this faculty. First of all, you need to know US has faculties around the city and they are not together. I’m going to talk about ETSI, which is mine – the Engineering Faculty.

Higher Technical School of Engineering is located at Cartuja, there is nothing near to it so you will need to use public transport or ride your bike in order to go to lessons, 20-40 min per route, it depends where you decide to live. If I were you, I wouldn’t choose it but if you insist on it, I would live Macarena, Triana or Remedios – three typical neighborhoods in Sevilla. The worst thing is it is difficult to go home to have lunch (too much time), so you will have to go to canteen; it is better if you go to another faculty which is quite near (7-8 min by walking).

About teachers, I wouldn’t say “teachers” because they teach nobody. I have to confess they are good professionals but not at teaching, University of Seville makes them give lessons but they only want to continue their research. When a professor is not motivated, lessons are useless and boring so eventually you won’t attend lessons. As well, lessons are not focused on professional life, you only learn academic subjects.

The best thing is mid-term exams (the irony). According to Bolonia, professors are bound to give to students the opportunity to pass subjects by mid-term exams. We have 2 types of subjects: many professors decided not to do them (and they laugh in your face) and the rest decide to do them but nobody will pass them (they laugh in your face, too). To resume, mid-terms are an urban legend and the Rector’s Office does nothing.

ETSI only exists for 1 reason: Seville. Seville is one of the best cities you can choose to live: people, weather… You will have something to do, somewhere to visit or someone to know so you won’t be bored. As well, Seville has an important industrial sector so you will be able to find a job if you try properly.

Conclusion: Terrible University, awesome city. 1 star (I can’t give 0) because I am evaluating the faculty, not the city.
