I am an Economist from the UCM, my professional activity focuses on strategic consulting (as CEO in a Consultancy) I am a professor in several master’s degrees and in several private business schools.
I have to admit that of the 5 years of my career, I could have had more than 4.5 years. What I have learned in the University, professionally, has not been absolutely worth me at all. The processes of evaluation of professional profiles of senior graduates have a less than 5% fit with the needs of the labor market.
Several teachers told me, “You come here to approve, not to know, that will already be done in the company.” This left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. The truth is that over time I understood this phrase, most teachers do not have work experience, therefore they can hardly teach anything beyond theory. This makes the University Educational System bad, or worse. And if to this you add the arrogance of some professors, professors or department directors, it makes it possible to introduce the debates in class or question the didactic system ceases to be a democratic act, to enter into a feudal model of homage and seigniorage.
I remember that in my curriculum, there were 4 years of History, something that only corresponded to the political force that the History department had. The curricular programs were bad, priority was given to the political interest of the Institution (Universidad UCM) rather than to the academic capacity of the students, something that should not be far from a scam.
On the other hand, teachers 70% were bad or very bad, played with the programs at will, they were missing in an unjustified way, their didactic capacity was not scarce, in most cases it was non-existent. It does not matter that in class they said some asshole, if you did not reproduce it in the exams in a literal way it was impossible to approve.
And even today, the ANECA, which focuses on evaluating the academic programs of the universities, does not exercise ex officio a rigorous review of the compliance of these programs by universities. Regrettable.
As a final conclusion, I feel cheated, OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY DEGREES ONLY VALUE TO OPPOSE (and as a basis), if you want to find a well-paid job you should start looking for other types of private degrees that teach you how to do important things, such as titles from Oracle MDB 1 year of study 6 months to get the Official Certificate and gain 50% to 70% more than a computer engineer, or in eCommerce, or BigData, or programming in Blockchain. If the University does not change drastically it is dead.
