Student review [#3971] for International Relations
at University of Belgrade

I graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences and my major was International Relations. Besides that, there are three more modules: Political Science, Journalism and Communication and Social Policy and Social Work. This faculty has its pros and cons, but in my opinion it is the best choice in Serbia for this field.
There are many student organizations, different conferences, seminars and lectures are often held. Also visits to embassies are organized from time to time, and are very popular among students. You will not have a chance to gain practical knowledge here, so you will have to find an internship on your own. Journalism students, on the other hand have their radio and TV show, so they can gain some practical knowledge, but still it’s not enough. There are subjects that are interesting, and professors and assistants are willing to help you at any time. Final exams are mostly oral and it is a great way to practise public performance.
Lectures are not mandatory and often boring because professors are usually just reading from their presentation. Also, on a large number of subjects you will not even see a professor; everything is done by their assistants. Literature is mostly outdated, but still remains the same. There are only a few subjects that encourage students to write essays, so a lot of people finish these studies without a basic knowledge of academic writing. Many subjects are basically the same, so you have the feeling that you often waste time doing the same thing all over again.
At the end, although this faculty has a lot of negative aspects I would still recommend it! They are changing a lot of things now and if you are really into this field there is no better place in Serbia than the Faculty of Political Sciences.
