Effat University is well known in KSA and it has great potential. It’s had a huge name in Saudi Arabia during its prime, it was among the top best. The campus is beautiful and the university is well equipped with facilities such as a swimming pool, a gymnasium, sports courts and more. However, it is not always well kept.
The older buildings also need proper maintenance but the new building are great, they’ve managed to keep them clean and the infrastructure is beautiful.
Students have a wide range of eating choices on campus, there’s Starbucks, Paul’s and La Crêperie to name a few.
As for the teaching: many of the professors are very passionate about their subjects which in turn shows in their classes. Moreover, The classes are small and intimate which makes for a good environment for imparting knowledge.
I think an area that needs a lot of improvement is the registration department. The staff can be friendlier and they can be more organized as well.
As I’m on the precipice of graduation, in retrospect it was a memorable and exciting 4 years spent. I made good memories and good friends along the way.
The university has a long way to go towards improving, but overall it’s great!
The very helpful professors. They are willing to help us at all times. Also the university environment is great. There are many places to sit and study. The library and its resources are very helpful. The programmes and courses offered are internationally accredited.
View moreI would consider the faculty to be one of the only good things about the university. Not all, of course, but a handful has made my university experience unforgettable. This handful of professors is eager to see you improve and delight in your success, though will not make it easy for you in the slightest.
The student body, while sometimes insufferable, is respectful and nice. I’ve made a good amount of friends here and I hope to keep them for life. The rest of the students here can be.. whiny and spoiled, but then again, this university does have a reputation for enrolling rich kids.
The administration are frustrating, and sometimes can’t seem to do their jobs right, or in a reasonable amount of time at least. Again, some actually care about the students, but only a few.
I feel that some of the courses offered at the university (ESPECIALLY the GED courses) are simplified to no end, and that might be due to the capabilities of the intended demographic: its students. I either end up feeling too smart or just regular and among idiots at times. Though in my program, most of the students are pretty smart. I suppose it’s just the GED courses that are too easy.
It’s not ALL bad, though. I very much enjoy the clubs at this university (though they are completely run by the students themselves) and have made many great memories within its walls. I just hope that it either gets better or I graduate soon.

The program my university had in mind for psy students had a lot of potential as it was thorough, cohesive, and focused on many crucial aspects that will be needed for a bright future in the field of psychology. However, there are quite a few downfalls to being a student at Effat University, which cannot really be perceived as the program’s fault, but rather the university’s administration and how it is run. For example, while the program designed for students has lots of potential, it has been poorly executed due to a lack of staff and funding (our entire psy department currently only has three professors). Due to this lack of staff, you often find that there are not enough professors to teach courses or that professors are overworked and have too many things on their plate which in turn affects the students’ experience. Oftentimes, for example, courses that are needed to be taken during a specific time in order for students to graduate according to plan, may not be offered or (even worse) cancelled last minute. Such issues are sadly common occurrences at Effat University. Another issue is the excessive intake of money from students without us really seeing where our money is going. This often frustrates students and their families because for such an expensive university, one would hope at least that basic things (such as the clean facilities and working technological resources) can be provided but sadly that is often not the case. And yet, through all this, I still view the program I am in to be the best psychology program in Jeddah as far as I am aware. Sure the university screws you over, and messes up your life plans here and there, but all in all, I know I will come out of this far more knowledgeable and accomplished in my field and areas of interest than I was before.
