I really enjoyed my time studying in Budapest. It’s a great city, and I was exposed to a truly international community in a way I never would have been if I’d stayed in the US. The school has great polisci/IR/public policy departments, and is particularly good for scholars interested in post-Soviet space or Europe. CEU is good about giving funding to their students, so financially it’s a great option. You’ll also have access to some great professors. I got to work with a UN lawyer and an ex EU commissioner while I was there. If you’re seriously interested in applying, research their situation; the founder of CEU (George Soros) is an opponent of the current government in Hungary, and there has been some talk of the government trying to close it down.
