The idea to create an internationally renowned school of economics within a public university first came to Jean-Jacques Laffont, a world-class economist, in 1979. Around 30 years later, his vision became reality. The Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) was created. It is a school within Toulouse 1 University Capitole. In 2011, TSE was established as the department of economics. In March 2014, the school was ranked as the 11th most productive research department of economics in the world (and ranked at number 3 in Europe) by REPEC.
