A Project Management degree teaches students about the main stages of conducting a project and develops their technical and soft skills in order to prepare them to manage a project team, supervise projects and ensure they are completed successfully. Institutions that offer Project Management courses make sure that students have a perfect understanding of the importance of managing quality, setting goals, scheduling and coordinating tasks, team-working and assessing potential investment returns. Therefore, they help students in gaining budgeting, planning, negotiation, communication and conflict resolution skills through their Project Management programs. Students also learn how to control costs, manage all possible risks that might occur as a result of conducting a particular project, deal with contracts and manage/stimulate performance. Throughout a Project Management course, students are familiarized with different strategies that aid the successful management and completion of projects. This degree develops students’ ability to handle and resolve other issues that occur over the course of a project as well.
Project Management courses develop a wide variety of skills, which students could use in different industries and occupations. The possession of multiple professional skills allows them to easily switch careers if they want to pursue opportunities outside the project management field. For example, students studying project management usually acquire very good organizational skills, such as coordinating activities and managing resources, which can be transferred to other occupations easily.
Acquiring the skills that a Project Management degree develops would allow students to take advantage of the increasing need for project managers in the contemporary business world. Project Management is a very competitive field and any additional qualifications, such as a degree or a certificate, increase an individual’s chances of securing a well-paid position as a project manager.
Apart from the promising career prospects, Project Management degrees could offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to academics. There are numerous online opportunities, offered by different Higher Education Institutions globally, to study Project Management. Online courses are suitable for individuals who have already started their professional careers and are unable to dedicate their time and effort to full-time studies. Online courses usually offer the same quality as on-campus courses and provide students with access to online resources to support their studies. However, what sets them apart from regular Project Management courses is the flexibility that students are provided with, which allows them to do the required work whenever and wherever they like.
Project Management is predominantly offered as a Master’s or a PhD degree course and is not so popular at Bachelor’s level.
The duration of a Project Management degree varies depending on the country, mode of study (full-time or part-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Project Management degrees at some of the most popular Higher Education locations:
Never have I felt this much like being at home. I have spent the best years of my life studying in TUT, and can most definitely recommend the TUT experience to everyone interested in developing themselves in a modern, high-quality university with the feeling of belonging to the student family! The studies encourage a lot of team work, which increases the social aspect of studies and lets the students get to know each other very well. The student organizations, on their behalf, do also support the social side of studies by offering an unbelievably large variety of events and activities from very academic and professional all the way to pure networking. See you at TUT! 🙂
View moreTUT is a modern technology center with a lot of companies and industry collaboration to be found from the campus. The campus area is very compact and offers some of the best working facilities that I’ve seen in Europe (with a 24/7 access!). Education is of high quality even by Finnish standards and students can modify their studies pretty freely which allows the assembly of a very valuable personal skillset.
View moreTUT is a very large complexity of various fields of studies for anyone who is little interested in anything about technology. They have many, very experienced lecturers who are really into what they are teaching. The quality of most of the courses is very high. You can always get help when you need it. A little minus for using such old technologies in these basic programming courses as I’m using a lot more advanced technologies in my work which could be used in TUT for teaching and it would be more convenient.
View moreI was in exchange here for one year in 2016. During that year I was welcomed by other teekkaris (technology students). There were all kinds of clubs and organisations to help me enjoy my stay. Local ESN INTO did a super great job by organising us different kind of events.
The university itself is located approximately 8km away from city centre. Luckily you didn’t have to go there often since there are shops and accommodation nearby. University is 24/7 open for its students and you can study there even in the middle of the night. I only slept at my accommodation since everything was so comfy at TUT.
Lecturers were really nice, they answered all our questions and didn’t mind that we used their first names. I even drank coffee with one lecturer and discussed about algorithms! Finnish universities themselves are so different to ours that this doesn’t even feel like studying. I strongly recommend applying there at least for your exchange!
