I’ve been studying mechanical engineering at Aalto University for over three years now. I like the amount of different available courses and the freedom in studies. The teaching is of great quality and the staff is helpful. Guidance in studies is great, the students are taken care of. I have a personal mentor professor with whom I can discuss my study plans. I feel that I can learn a lot of relevant subjects and I can get help for choosing what I want to learn.
There are a lot of interesting activities outside studies as well. Today I’m attending a free lecture about stock investing that’s not related to any course I’m on.
There is an abundance of student restaurants on the campus with cheap and good quality meals, most for 2,60e including bread, milk and salad. I also have a cheap room with my own fridge and toilet 3 min walk away from the university, provided by the university housing office for 315 euros per month. The rent includes internet connection with 100 MB speed (or 1000? at least some rooms have 1000), electricity and water. There is also a cheap gym with great sports rooms, the card costing 132e per year for students of Aalto (usual good quality gyms are easily 50e per month in Finland). This price includes free group exercise sessions – I tried Astanga yoga once, great! The area is also good for jogging and there is a 400m running track/football field right under my window.
Overall, I rate my university experience in Aalto so far 5/5. I can’t think of anything missing.
