I study at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek at the JJ strossmayer University. I am currently in my first year of graduation. I believe that a lot can be achieved if you stand out from the crowd. The subjects are okay, but too much theoretical knowledge. One professor I know is the only one who teaches us in a different way, while the others teach classical theory. There are many student associations, so everyone can find something for themselves. I wouldn’t say that Osijek is a city for international students, I know that about 70 come every semester through Erasmus, and of course all the others who come through another program. As for the social life, I think there is something for everyone. All in all, I’m satisfied, but nothing special.
View moreI study at Faculty of Economics in Osijek. I will be honest and say that I didn’t have any expectations about the faculty itself. Now, I am doing my master there. I would say I am not happy nor disappointed about the faculty. In general, professors are nice and they try to help you if you don’t understand something, but of course that there are also not so good ones. I am sad that we are not that informed about opportunities for internships or extra activities. And also, 95% of time it’s only theoretical knowledge, without knowing how to “put it into action“.
There are a lot of student organizations, so I think anyone can find something that would fit their needs. Besides the ones at the faculty, you can also join in a lot of different student organizations that are part of the university itself.
I liked attending J.J. Strossmayer University, primarily because it is located in a student city. City is vibrant and youthful, and I feel like I am surrounded by people who share my interests and passions. There is a lot of things to do outside of classes.
Another great aspect of my university is the large number of student organizations available. These organizations allowed me to pursue my hobbies and interests, meet new people, and develop skills that will help me both personally and professionally.
I do have some concerns about the classes at my university. I feel that some of the classes could be more engaging and challenging. There isn’t a lot of hands on classes, it’s mostly theory.
View moreI am a student at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek, which is a part of the J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek. Currently, I am in my first year of a Master’s in management program. Overall, the faculty is good, but it lacks practical knowledge. Unfortunately, I have only encountered one professor who teaches us how to put theoretical knowledge into practice.
On a positive note, there are many student organizations available, covering different fields. This means that anyone can find one that fits their needs and interests. However, there are not many internship opportunities available, which is disappointing. In my honest opinion, the faculty should provide us with more opportunities to gain practical experience through internships. One of the reasons why I dislike the faculty is because it accepts more than 250 students, which is a lot considering the challenging job market in Croatia, especially for economics graduates. Finding a job after graduation can be difficult, and with such a large number of students, the competition is fierce. In my opinion, the faculty should consider reducing the number of students it admits to ensure better job prospects for its graduates. Regarding the University itself, I have had only positive experiences and do not have any complaints to share. I believe that the University needs to improve its organization for international students who come to study in Osijek. I have heard of cases where international students are required to study subjects at several faculties, which are not related to their field of study, or attend lectures in the Croatian language despite being foreigners. This can cause unnecessary stress and difficulties for these students, hindering their academic progress and overall experience. Therefore, the University should work on providing better support and resources for international students, such as language classes and clear guidelines on course requirements, to ensure a more positive and inclusive learning environment.
