UBC, particularly the Sauder School of Business, provided me with an unparalleled educational experience. While this campus is in one of the most liveable places in the world, it’s the people and the in-person atmosphere that makes this school unique.
One of the highlights of getting an education here is the commitment to collaboration and discussion within the classroom setting. Though many students complain of large classes and little opportunity to interact with other students, I found that within my Marketing specialization, there were smaller classes. With that, professors have a simpler time remembering students and fostering a more engaging, personalized experience per section. Having open dialogue and opportunities to collaborate on projects, cases, and other activities allows for better preparation for real-world challenges and workplace environments.
Would recommend my program and UBC overall!
View moreI was always intrigued and interested in how inherent the beauty of financial planning is and its applicability to all people worldwide – which led me to pursue a BComm degree at UBC Sauder School of Business. Courses in Sauder epitomize the understanding that financing is not having an influx of money but rather knowing how to manage it. I want to learn how to make critical decisions, enjoy the Ventures, challenge my leadership skills, and bear the stress that comes with it. Sauder was the ideal school that allows me to discover my strengths and minimize my weakness. Truth be told, Sauder is challenging me in ways I could never think of. Overall, UBC is an intersection of one of the most diverse communities I have ever met. It consists of countless clubs and organizations that every person is bound to find something they are interested in. There is not a valid reason for not attending UBC honestly.
View moreMy UBC experience so far has been overall pretty positive. One of the main reasons I chose UBC Sauder School of Business is because of their Co-op program, which is a program that lets you go on paid internships during your normal school terms to gain real-life experience on what you’re learning in class. Business students in my opinion have access to a lot more resources than other faculties since we have one of the best career and academic advisors. Want some course registering advice? They got you. Want some career directions advice? They got you. Want your resumes and cover letters polished? They also got you. This is a great school if you’re a proactive student who knows how to reach out and talk to these resourceful advisors. Joining the co-op program basically makes it easier for you to get internships and secure jobs after graduation too.
Outside of Sauder, I think UBC itself is also a great environment. A lot of people say that UBC is such a big community (50,000 students) so it’s nearly impossible to find your people and make long-lasting friendships. That is true but also not. What I love about UBC is that we have a variety of student-run clubs and organizations that you can join and make friends. I’ve made amazing friendships through joining clubs so hope you can trust me on that.
UBC also has an amazing campus and it’s huge if you’re into unis with a gigantic campus. There’s a beach and a ton of trails where you can go on a walk, not many unis have that lmao. There’s a lot of nature and it is far away from downtown so if you’re into city campuses then UBC is probably not for you.
Some things to keep in mind though, as an international student the tuition is a lot more pricey than domestic, and tuition for the business majors are also more expensive than other faculties (which kinda motivates me to milk their resources even more cuz i paid banks for this). Secondly, these thoughts are solely based on my personal experience so take it or leave it.
Lastly, if you do choose to come study at UBC, I hope you have the best experience and that you get to experience all the amazing things I did here!
View moreI am a commerce student studying in Sauder. It’s definitely a stressful program but the professors and classmates are supportive. I have many opportunities for internships outside of school. Something I disliked about the program is the lack of creativity that has given to us.
View moreUBC has over 50,000 students from all over the world. They offer every single class you need and the teachers are incredible! The best part however is the student community, the sports level, and the people. I came from Mauritius, alone here, and found my best friends, an incredible career and got to travel with the university to Ethiopia, China, and New York – the opportunities are endless and its such a beautiful campus (next to the best skiing mountains in the world)!
