I studied here when the school was still in its previous name, but I had nothing but great experiences. Being a commuter school means that most people will study and simply return home, and there is a lack of overall community – but community does exist if you put yourself out there and you don’t have to look far. Get involved with clubs, course unions and your program events. Everyone is very approachable and none of the professors I had ever turned me away from chatting about schoolwork and making reasonable requests. I felt nothing but support from the staff throughout my entire journey here.

I had the misfortune of being roped into an academic misconduct (group projects amirite?) once, and the professor I had dealing with it at the time was extremely professional. She was willing to hear everyone’s sides of the story even though she really didn’t need to (could have just failed all of us right then and there) and went through all the right channels to see through the misconduct and punishing the right people. At the time, there was a lot of frustration, anger and annoyance on all sides of course – but looking back, I’m grateful it was dealt with fairly and professionally.

Study spaces can improve. JOR and KERR needs a huge revamp, but I mean, you’re in the middle of the city – why box yourself in on campus to study when there’s tons of coffee shops, other libraries?

As a third-year student in the Professional Communications program at Toronto Metropolitan University, I can confidently say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my academic journey thus far. This program has not only provided me with valuable knowledge and skills but has also allowed me to enhance my communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities.

One of the highlights of the Professional Communications program is its comprehensive approach to developing effective communication skills. Through a blend of theoretical coursework and practical applications, I have learned how to articulate my ideas clearly, adapt my communication style to different audiences, and effectively convey information in both oral and written formats. These skills have proven to be invaluable in various aspects of my personal and professional life.

Furthermore, Toronto Metropolitan University offers numerous opportunities for students to engage in school initiatives that further enhance their overall learning experience. One such program is the Career Boost program, which provides job opportunities to eligible full-time undergraduate students. This initiative not only helps students gain practical work experience but also allows them to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Another noteworthy program is the Tri-Mentoring program, which prioritizes the educational journey of each student by providing individualized mentorship. Through this program, students can benefit from the wisdom and experiences of mentors who assist them in finding their sense of belonging on campus. This personalized support system has played a significant role in my academic and personal growth, and I am grateful for the guidance I have received.

Based on my experiences, I would highly recommend studying at Toronto Metropolitan University. In conclusion, my experience in the Professional Communications program at Toronto Metropolitan University has been incredibly rewarding. I have enjoyed the program immensely as a third-year student and have witnessed significant growth in my communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. With ample opportunities to engage in school initiatives such as the Career Boost program and the Tri-Mentoring program, Toronto Metropolitan University provides a supportive and enriching environment for students. I wholeheartedly recommend this institution to aspiring students seeking a comprehensive education and a vibrant learning community.

As a Creative Industries, I have enjoyed my time at TMU. As someone open to entering many different media sectors, I love that I can explore my passions freely. I love all the business of film, producing, music, etc courses, and the professors are knowledgeable and can give you the tools needed to start in the industry. However, myself and many other students wished that the program was more hands-on and less general business courses that are required. They tend to repeat themselves and I feel that I could learn more by taking more Open Electives.

During my time at TMU so far,I am actively cultivating a versatile skill set that encompasses graphic design and UX design. As a progress in my academic journey as a passionate new media student, I have become strongly interested in marketing, communications, interactive and experiential art, graphic design and UX design. TMU is a school full of opportunity as it gives the students attending the school a voice to choose and find there own path. This is demonstrated by the many school events, and student led groups and activities that includes everyone in the TMU Community. Since the school itself is in the heart of Toronto, it allows me to get a real sense and feel for the real world as many people are roaming around campus weather they are a student or not, increasing our networks and connections to the real world. I overall am happy with TMU so far and would like to seek more student opportunities in the future.
