The campus culture is vibrant and varied, fostering a sense of community that makes you feel eager to participate in university life here. The faculty members in my experience are supportive, they help you see positive results from the effort you put into your studies. Overall, I had a positive experience at Carleton University. I am grateful for the lifelong friendships, invaluable knowledge and support from the faculty and institution in general.
View moreI started my BA in Social Work at Carleton in 2020. I was one of those students that spent my first 2 years totally online! Obviously, covid was a difficult time for everyone, and that exacerbated the difficulties of starting university because providing guidance online to someone who’s never gone to university before is hard. I didn’t have an orientation, or a frosh week, and didn’t meet anybody until the third year! However, things are definitely better now.
Carleton’s campus is huge, with lots of fun places to sit, several places to grab some food or a snack, cafes, you name it! I quite enjoy using the gym on campus, although it is usually super busy! It’s a decent size with lots of equipment, and it’s a great place to meet people on campus. There are clubs (although I haven’t joined any) and lots of events at Ollie’s (the school restaurant/bar that turns into a club some nights). The classrooms are also quite nice, and when a class isn’t going on, they’re a great place to sit and get some work done.
In terms of profs, obviously, my experience is a little bit biased because I’m only in social work, but what I will say is that it can be overwhelming! Carleton is not a university where you can just slack and pass a course. Participation is usually marked and monitored, and the expectations for assignments are high! There are opportunities for placements/co-ops for credits depending on your program, and lots of jobs you can get on campus as well.
Overall, now that it’s not all online and I’ve been able to get the full university experience, I have enjoyed it way more. I hope you enjoy your Carleton experience too! 🙂
View moreCarleton Univeristy is a great institution that is really committed to the success of each student in and out of the classroom. Carleton offers a variety of course options within each program that allow students to fully explore the depth of their chosen field of study. Carleton also has a variety of in-person and online resources available to ensure students of all different backgrounds, learning styles, and future aspirations are able to make the most of their academic experience. Resources like Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities, Writing Services, and Career Services all aid in the academic journey of all students
View moreSo far my experience at Carleton University is great. My professors are extremely effective at teaching and helpful when I request extra help and time for assignments, the campus is pretty easy to navigate and the tunnels are an added bonus to avoid the winter weather.
View moreThe best way to get to classes in the freezing Ottawa winter were the Tunnels! They will get you to every building in Carleton. Especially if you are living on campus, going on a late night walk in the tunnels not only makes you feel safe but is relaxing.
View moreMy teachers I had this past year were all extremely helpful and understanding, I had many times where I felt left in the dark not knowing what to do and my teachers would help me out with advice or give me an extension on my assignments. Not only that but they were all very understanding of the issues and scenarios that comes with online learning.
View moreThe criminology program at Carleton has really solidified my passion for Criminology as my future career. The professors made the class very engaging and educational, and the students are very helpful, especially because of the PASS program (peer-asiste study sessions), which helped me excel in this program very well. You get to have 1 on 1’s with other students and get to strengthen your learning, and also make new friends. I would definitely suggest PASS to any Carleton students. The school is also relatively diverse and offers different language courses and other accommodations for international students.
View moreI have enjoyed my experience at Carleton so far. Though all my classes have been online, most of the professors seem to really care about their students and are passionate about what they are teaching. Sadly, I have missed out on the campus experience due to the pandemic and online learning but hopefully, there will be more in-person classes next school year.
View moreIn my second year at Carleton University, the professors are passionate about the topic, making it fun to learn and engage. One bad experience I had would be with some of my law professors- one of them did not care, and we hadn’t heard from him in two weeks. But, overall, the courses in the rest of the Criminology program are very helpful and fun to learn!
View moreIt has friendly faculty and good sports facilities. I liked PhD office I had. Unfortunately, there are no guest apartments for PhD students. Also, we could not send our kids to the uni kindergarten because there was no space and it was quite expensive.
