As a passionate book lover, and aspiring writer, enrolling in the English Literature and Cultural Studies program at McMaster University was the best decision I have ever made. Not only are the Professors successful and well-known published authors, but their courses are equipped with everything you need to become a great writer. From Victorian Literature, to Creative Writing, to exploring genres such as Shakespeare, Sci-Fi, Medieval Romance and Graphic Narrative, the english program is designed with care and heart. There are also so many opportunities to get involved in school newspapers or campus journals, to get experience publishing/ submitting your work to help you build a professional resume. And what’s ever better, the submission entrance fees are free of charge! Not only is McMaster a beautiful campus with big oak trees, archival Harry-Potter looking buildings, and some cool study spots, but it is a campus full of community! It feels just like the movies!
This is your sign to choose McMaster and start making your dreams of becoming a better writer a reality!
All PIs and students I’ve met in the program have been great. The atmosphere of collaboration and support is wonderful. The major con to this program is the administration. We get emails about changing who to contact very frequently because people keep leaving. There is NEVER anybody in the Med Sci office so they can only be contact by email. Finally, for scholarships that require the application to be forwarded by your program (i.e. OGS), we have so far not received…

View moreThis program is a combination of business and humanities and has a lot of classes that are very interesting. One big advantage of this program is it is heavily group based and most projects are conducted as such. As a second year student I have a final project that spans four courses, this environment is great when people are looking to go into a industry where team work is needed. Although it’s intended purpose is to work in HR field it does a great job at teaching soft skills which are applicable in any job you would ever want. Bi-weekly seminars on various topics such as leadership, resilience, how to build a resume, and even how to create a LinkedIn profile. The only disadvantage of this course is the humanities courses which don’t seem to actually teach anything important but are rather only useful to improve writing peoples writing abilities.
