    Money grab, mediocre education.

Only go here if you truly, for whatever reason, cannot go to a school that isn’t for profit. The tuition raises significantly each year, there are next to no amenities for this (no resources in their library system), they pay their instructors garbage (low quality, not their first priority), let in basically anyone and so the calibre of education is embarrassingly (or should be if they cared about this) low. They also falsely advertise the program with respect to the time needed to complete the course, the ability to work while going to school – there will be synchronous meetings that they will inform you of once the course has started and will not offer any flexibility in. You will have already invested so much that you are stuck and at their mercy. They are not governed by anyone so there is no point in bringing up your concerns.

    Run by Political Ideologues

    A hard pass.
Do not go to Yorkville University.

I completed Master’s of Counselling Psychology (MACP) up to practicum with 4+ GPA, before getting dismissed from my practicum site for the crime of refusing my practicum supervisor’s identity-politics-motivated compelling of my speech (“misgendering”).

Yorkville automatically failed me as a result.
I appealed this injustice for over a whole year, supplying mountain of evidence and logical arguments to justify my actions, but they did not care, as it did not align with the political orthodoxy that they are religiously adhering to without question. They even assigned me to re-education, which was their attempt to gaslight me into submission.

The corruption and incompetence of the Yorkville’s bureaucrats and administrators cannot be ignored, with them outright valuing adherence to radical leftist precepts over their institutional duty to train skilled counsellors and therapists. Given that these jokers are in charge of running the university, it is only a matter of time before it and its degrees fades into irrelevance.

As for the program’s educational content in general, it is minimal and subpar. The depth of knowledge in their materials is shallow at best. To put it in perspective, I would say at least 95% of my total learnings during the course came from self-study of non-course-related material. The MACP program is extremely bare-boned.

Regarding its online nature, this is overwhelming a detriment. While I can understand the lure of convenience, the costs (and cons) are too great to justify it. For example, in MACP, Discussion Questions (DQs) assignments are present for almost all courses where they attempt to get students to interact with and debate one another while expressing their understanding of course material. In reality, it is mostly a space characterised by students’ sequential regurgitation of course material. Real debate is near non-existent, as students try to fulfill their weekly quota of posts as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Spend your money elsewhere if you actually want an education, or if you just don’t want to pay for these ideological clowns’ salaries.

Hi, I\'m potentially looking at this program. I\'m interested in your perspective, and am curious as to what happened that resulted in you failing your practicum, as your description is a little confusing, are you saying that you got dismissed because you misgendered a client? Thanks for the input!

    MACP Program

My review of this program is based on how I was able to obtain a master’s degree from the comfort of my own home, while working full-time. I am currently in the last year of the program and set to graduate in December 2023. I gave 4/5 stars because the University has a lot of students, which means there are a lot of “hiccups” technology and organization wise.

Hi, I\'m considering the MACP program. I noticed you gave the career prospects 5 stars. Have you noticed any delays in getting a job due to the online nature of your degree?

    Only care about $$$

While the course work and professors are for the most part good (with some exceptions) when it comes to finding a practicum it’s obvious Yorkville does not care one bit about their student’s future career prospects. They would be more than happy to take the fees for a deferred placement while you beg local practices to take you on with no support from the school. While other counselling programs help you secure your program, Yorkville doesn’t lift a finger and they are churning out students so fast that existing placement availability simply cannot keep up. If you want a counselling degree, I recommend looking elsewhere this program is so so expensive and, especially when you consider just how much we have to pay, the administrative and practicum program support is truly horrible. I should have graduated this year but due to no internship availability it will be another year.

I just read your review. I am presently researching the same program. Just curious if you managed to complete your internship and graduate. Does the program not build in 400 hours of practicum into the program? Any more information is helpful thank you.

    Yorkville University MACP

When you think about Yorkville University, it may often be accompanied by an image of dollar signs flying before your eyes. While this university is expensive, it is understandable due to its private nature of it. I feel that a lot of people reviewing Yorkville think the cost is unfair (and maybe so) however, they are a private company looking to make the big bucks. Overall, my time in Yorkville’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology has taught me valuable lessons: 1) don’t underestimate the amount of information you can essentially teach to yourself 2) be careful to keep track of payments being taken off your credit card, and 3) community is essential. I have enjoyed this program so far, I’m getting good grades, the professors are nice, and the community leans on each other and offers tons of support. I would recommend it only to someone who understands the value of education, and who can adapt and has self-discipline – these are essential components of being a student in Yorkville’s MACP.
