17/02/2018

The Universidad Complutense de Madrid is a public university located in Madrid, the Spanish capital, currently regarded as the best university in Spain. Known for the quality of its education, the Complutense University offers its students several chances to further their studies and provide them with new opportunities. While the scholarships granted by the University are always changing and have appliance deadlines, in this article we will talk about some of them that are available until the end of this month, February of 2018.

Types of Scholarships offered by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid:

Financial aid scholarships for studying a degree or master’s degree

The purpose of these scholarships is that no one is deprived of superior education due to economic reasons. Therefore, the Complutense University offers its students around two million euros for special aids and grants. At least 550 aids are offered for undergraduate students and there are also other 200 for those who are pursuing a master’s degree. However, students must meet a certain series of requirements to be eligible for one of these scholarships. Firstly, the students who are asking for the scholarship must have either the Spanish nationality, citizenship from another country belonging to the European Union or possess a document that testifies that they are residing in Spain, in case of non-communitarian foreigners. Furthermore, all students should be enrolled in a degree offered by the Complutense University, and not meet the specific academic and economic requirements to be eligible for a ministerial aide. And also, the annual income of the student’s family must not have exceeded a certain amount during the year 2016, depending on the number of family members.

If a student is in need of this financial aid, he or she must request it by filling in a form and providing specific documentation before the appliance deadline, which is February 28th.

Excellency scholarships for studying a Master’s degree

The Complutense University of Madrid has always valued and rewarded its student’s academic merits, and these scholarships are a proof of it. Therefore, up to 200 students may be able to benefit from these scholarships, which consist in the exemption of the 50% of the price paid for up to 60 registered credits. However, the quantity of the exemption will be calculated taking into account other price reductions the student may have the right to, and can’t surpass the amount of 1800 €. Also, in order to be eligible for this type of scholarship, students must also have the Spanish nationality, citizenship of another country belonging to the European Union, or a document proving them as residents in Spain (Erasmus or visiting students excluded). The students must have selected a master’s degree offered by the Complutense University, and have finished the degrees that grant access to said master during the academic years 2015/2016 or 2016/2017. Furthermore, these students should not meet the specific academic and economic requirements to be eligible for a scholarship granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. And lastly, for this type of scholarship, a minimal GPA of 7,5/10 in the degree that gave students access to the master’s they chose is required. Unlike the financial aid scholarships, we have talked about previously, the Excellency scholarships don’t take into account the financial situation of the student’s family, but students should also provide the University with the required documentation before the appliance deadline, February 28.

What do students think about Universidad Complutense de Madrid?

Nowadays, numerous students are studying their degrees thanks to these scholarships, and several alumni have also benefited from them and also from Ministerial aids, such as Isabel, who has shared with us her experience as a Spanish Philology student:

While she has overall a good impression of the degree she has chosen and the university ambiance, she also remarks the tiresome bureaucracy of the Complutense University, something several other students have mentioned, such as this anonymous user, who also mentions the tardiness with which new information usually arrive and the fact that students must always stay sharp themselves in order to be properly informed (we don’t really know what this person studied nor in which faculty, but many current students from the Faculty of Philology may actually relate to this point).

However, all in all, there are many students who point out the Complutense University of Madrid is a good place to study, even though some of the facilities are in dire need of some reformations and some professors leave quite a bit to be desired, because of the university environment and the variety of extracurricular activities one can choose.

This student, Manuel, also states that the prices and fees are quite affordable and he corroborates that many students can benefit from the different scholarships the Complutense University has to offer in case their economic situation is a little limited.

Conclusions

We might say that, in spite of the bureaucracy and the state of some of the facilities, the Complutense University of Madrid enjoys a good reputation and offers quality education to all people who are willing to learn and broaden their horizons.
